Embrace your New Body as a Mom

Body image concerns are common among new moms as you navigate the physical changes that come with pregnancy and postpartum. I want you to be able to embrace your new body as a mom! Here are some body image concerns that new moms may face, along with strategies to promote body positivity:

1️⃣ Stretch Marks and Scars: Many new moms may feel self-conscious about stretch marks and scars that may have appeared during pregnancy or from C-sections. I encourage self-acceptance by emphasizing that these marks are a beautiful testament to the journey of motherhood and the strength of your body.

2️⃣ Weight and Body Shape: New moms may feel pressure to “bounce back” to their pre-pregnancy weight and shape. I promote body positivity by helping my mom clients to celebrate all of their body types and sizes, and emphasize that every body is beautiful and unique. Try practicing self-care practices that focus on feeling healthy and strong rather than solely on appearance.

3️⃣ Breastfeeding and Body Changes: Breastfeeding can lead to changes in breast size and shape, which can cause body image concerns. I want my new moms to embrace and celebrate their bodies for the incredible nourishment they provide to their babies.

4️⃣ Comparison to Others: Social media and societal pressures can fuel comparison and negative self-perception. I always encourage new moms to curate their social media feeds, following accounts that promote body positivity and self-love.

5️⃣ Finding a New Style: New moms may struggle with finding clothes that fit their changing bodies and align with their personal style. Find some fashion tips that make you feel confident and comfortable, such as flattering silhouettes, stretchy fabrics, and embracing your evolving sense of style.

6️⃣ Practicing Self-Compassion: Promoting self-compassion and positive self-talk are essential tools for promoting body positivity. I want you to challenge negative thoughts and replace them with affirmations about your strength, resilience, and beauty.

7️⃣ Emphasize Inner Qualities: Shift the focus from external appearance to inner qualities and achievements. Celebrate the amazing things you are doing for your babies and highlight your nurturing nature, love, and resilience.

8️⃣ Supportive Community: Foster a supportive community where you can share your concerns, insecurities, and triumphs. Connect with other moms who are experiencing similar challenges, providing a space for empathy, understanding, and celebration.

Feeling like yourself again can really help you to feel more positive about your body! A lot of new moms find themselves feeling lost and alone during this time. If this is something you are struggling with, check out my post with tips on how to start feeling like yourself again!

Remember, I want you to embrace your new body as a mom and remember that this is an ongoing process.
