What is sex therapy? Let’s talk about it! Not everyone knows what sex therapy is, or that it is even a thing. Let’s get the biggest questions out of the way first. There is NO touching in sex therapy. Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy where the topics all surround sex. Not all therapists are comfortable with talking about sex, so they typically refer out to sex therapists to help couples and individuals work through those issues/concerns.
Now let’s discuss what needs to happen to become a certified sex therapist. Certified sex therapists take extra classes/courses to learn the basic knowledge of many of the sex therapy topics. They also have to see a certain number of direct client hours, and have a certain amount of supervision hours, as well as attending a Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR). Sex therapists have to complete all of this in order to be completely certified as a sex therapist. So, if you are looking for a sex therapist, finding someone who is certified in sex therapy, is a great way to know that you will most likely be taken care of because of their extra training in the subject.
What kind of things can sex therapists help with? Well…a lot! One of the things I see the most, is sexual desire discrepancy. This is when one partner’s sex drive is higher than their partners sex drive. Sex therapists can also see clients who are experiencing sexual dysfunctions, pain with sex, no sexual desire, etc.
As a Sex Therapist in Richmond, TX, I work with clients experiencing all of the above issues. I also work with clients virtually all over Texas. I love helping couples and individuals have a healthy and satisfying sex life. It is a true passion of mine. If you are in need of a sex therapist, contact me!
